Infrastructure NSW: Planning And Delivering What Is Critical
A NSW Liberal/Nationals Government will create Infrastructure NSW to improve the identification, prioritisation and delivery of critical public infrastructure across the State, NSW Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Brad Hazzard announced today.
"Infrastructure NSW will ensure the roads, rail, hospital, port and other upgrades this State so desperately needs are delivered according to need, on time and on budget," Mr O'Farrell said.
"My Government will be focused on strengthening the NSW community through jobs, growth and basic services," he said.
"I am determined to make NSW the infrastructure leader of Australia and Infrastructure NSW will be vital to that outcome.
"Infrastructure NSW will:
- Identify public infrastructure needs;
- Establish priorities and recommend timelines for delivery;
- Advise on project procurement, contractual arrangements, best practice, delivery and funding modes; and,
- Ensure Government is armed with the necessary information to re-energise and deliver the State's infrastructure programme.
"It will also ensure the quality of submissions to the Federal Government's Infrastructure Australia to ensure maximum Federal funds flow to NSW.
"State Labor's history is the announcement and then cancellation or delay of infrastructure projects - from the South West and North West rail links through to major road and hospital upgrades like Tamworth Hospital or the M5 East.
"Infrastructure NSW will end bungled projects like Bathurst Hospital, blow outs in costs like the Epping to Chatswood rail link and wrong priorities like the Rozelle Metro.
"To drive NSW jobs and growth, there needs to be a focus on ensuring the Government delivers critical infrastructure.
"While Nathan Rees' Government focuses on spin and deception, mine will focus on delivery and standing up for the forgotten families of NSW."
Mr Hazzard said Labor's failure to deliver for the community must end.
"Infrastructure NSW will comprehensively audit infrastructure needs and priorities, as well as assist in the development of short, medium and long term planning," Mr Hazzard said.
"The Infrastructure Co-ordinator General will be the Chief Executive of Infrastructure NSW and will report directly to the Premier to ensure delivery is driven at the highest level of government.
"Infrastructure NSW is built on the successful Infrastructure Australia, Partnerships UK and Partnerships Victoria models.
"Establishing Infrastructure NSW has been one of the earlier recommendations of business to the NSW Liberal/Nationals' inquiry currently being led by Max Moore-Wilton aimed at halving infrastructure delivery lead times.
"The quality of life for all NSW residents will improve dramatically under a NSW Liberal/Nationals Government, with Infrastructure NSW guaranteeing a new focus and energy on delivering infrastructure in NSW," Mr Hazzard said.
